Mum fined for providing 'unbalanced' school lunch

A Canadian mum has been left puzzled after she received a fine from her two children's' school for not providing a "balanced" lunch.

Kristen Bartkiw sent her kids to school with some leftovers from the night before - roast beef, potatoes, carrots, oranges and milk - only to have the school send her a notice for the lunch not meeting their strict guidelines, Gawker reported.

According to the school, the lunch she provided was "unbalanced" because it didn't have an item from all the food groups.

The missing group was "grains," according to the notice received by Bartkiw.

She copped a $10 fine, $5 for each food group missing in each child's lunch, and the children were given Ritz crackers as a supplement.
