British police have reportedly arrested a British man over the 2007 disappearance of Madeleine McCann in Portugal.
UK paper The Sunday Mirror, broke the news reporting that a man had been arrested by police, his home raided and computers seized.
The arrest has been described as “potentially highly significant” and comes following a report that a man had bragged about seeing Madeleine alive just weeks ago.
The claims came from a respected barrister who said the man boasted about seeing Maddy on a Mediterranean island. The statement is being rated us “high up on the credibility scale”.
The news comes as detectives in the UK prepare to publish new e-fits of men they want to contact.
The parents of missing Madeleine McCann will also appear in a Crimewatch appeal on BBC1 in the UK tomorrow night which will present a fresh timeline on the events surrounding her disappearance.
The programme will feature a new reconstruction of events, with Madeleine played by a three-year-old girl.
It will be screened in the UK, Holland and Germany, following reports police are seeking two german-speaking men over her disappearance.
