World first trials bring autism hope

Melbourne researchers are embarking on world first trials in an attempt to reactivate a part of the brain linked to autism.

World first trials are being held at the Monash Alfred Psychiatry Research Centre where participants undergo trans-cranial magnetic stimulation to activate the mirror neurons in the brain.

Researchers say switching on the mirror neurons could held develop empathy and understanding of others, and long-term could provide autistic sufferers with some feelings of normality.
