Woman's warning after popular $15 Kmart item 'explodes'

A woman has issued a warning online after her $15 set of Kmart scales “exploded”.

The woman, wrote on Kmart Mums Australia, that her black digital scales recently “exploded sending glass everywhere”.

“I lightly nudged them and they exploded,” she wrote.

“Glass went everywhere. As I was cleaning up, the shards shattered into smaller and smaller pieces. Kmart has been notified.”

While some claimed their scales were fine, including one woman who claimed to have had her scales for four years, others said theirs have exploded too.

“Same thing happened to me,” another woman wrote.

“And you could still hear them crackling after.”

Another added hers shattered and she was “so glad” her kids weren’t in the bathroom when the scales broke.

One woman also posted her photo of a cracked black digital scale – believed to be the same one as the first woman’s.

A few have also pointed out the glass is “tempered” – the same type used on sliding doors and swimming pools.

“So, they shatter in that way as a safety precaution,” the woman wrote.

In a statement to Yahoo7, a Kmart spokesperson said the store “is committed to the quality and safety of all our products for our customers and the community”.

“We are sorry to hear of this experience and have spoken directly to the customer. Our quality team are reviewing the product as a priority.”

The spokesperson added anyone with issues can contact Kmart Australia’s customer service team on 1800 124 125 between 7am – 7pm AEST Monday – Friday (except public holidays) or check Kmart’s website.
