Woman’s unexpected reaction after strangers save her dog from hot car

A woman who helped rescue a dog that was discovered in a hot car in a Sydney shopping centre parking lot has expressed her disbelief at the response they received from the “ungrateful” owner.

The concerned shopper said she spotted the dog in the bottom level of the Campbelltown Mall car park on Tuesday afternoon, where she estimates the temperature was 36C.

“She [the owner] was gone for 40 minutes,” she wrote in a scathing Facebook post.

“We did get the dog out of the car as soon as we could, took him into the air con and gave him some cold water… he lapped it all up.”

When the owner eventually did return, her apparent response stunned the Good Samaritan.

“[She started] having a go at me and the rest of us, and was so ungrateful that we saved her dog’s life… telling us that you’re lucky that he didn’t bite you,” she added.

“I’m sorry but I don’t care if he did bite me! I’m getting that dog out from the heat.”

She echoed the calls of police and SES officials who are pleading with parents and pet owners not to underestimate the dangers associated with the brutal heatwave that has been scorching most of the country this week.

“Please, people with pets and children do not leave them in the car on hot days or any day,” she added.

“It doesn’t matter if you left the windows down a little bit or it doesn’t matter if you are going into the shops to get a few things.”
