Woman's cruise ship death may be murder

The death of a woman who plunged from the upper deck of a cruise ship is reportedly being investigated as a potential murder case.

A 52-year-old American woman aboard Princess Cruises’ Royal Princess ship sailing in the Caribbean on Tuesday fell to her death onto a lifeboat below.

The woman had previously been seen in an altercation with a male passenger where she was allegedly being choked, Aruba news outlet Diario reported.

Aruba-based MasNoticia.com revealed investigators are looking into whether the woman’s death was murder.

Princess Cruises confirmed the woman’s death on Tuesday onboard the ship which was travelling to Aruba from Curacao, off the coast of Venezuela, yet said the cause of death was “not yet known”.

“We are deeply saddened by this incident and offer our sincere condolences to the family and those affected,” a statement from the company said.

Police boarded the vessel as it docked in Aruba with passengers unable to leave until authorities arrived, one witness told NBC 9News.
