Woman targeted in suspected acid attack on London bus

Witnesses have described the horror of seeing a young woman being doused in water after a suspected acid attack on a London bus.

They claimed the woman, believed to be in her 20s, was injured after she became caught in a gang fight in Brixton, south London, but MET Police said the woman was targeted in a suspected noxious substance attack.

Police were called to Brixton Road about 1.45pm (local time) on Tuesday after reports of the attack on a bus.

The woman was treated at the scene and taken to a central London hospital.

Police said the incident was not random and a targeted attack, and they are continuing inquiries to trace one suspect, believed to be a woman.

Witness Becky Reid wrote on Twitter about the horror that unfolded on the bus.

“Feel physically sick after walking past a poor innocent person getting hosed down by firefighters after being caught in the middle of an acid fight in Brixton,” she wrote.

“So scary that this can happen on our doorstep. Hope they are okay.”

Detectives from the Roads and Transport Policing Command are investigating.
