Woman sexually assaulted four days after rape and murder of Eurydice Dixon
A woman has been sexually assaulted in Melbourne’s inner north just four days after Eurydice Dixon was raped and murdered about two kilometres away.
The woman and her friend, both aged in their 30s, caught a taxi from Melbourne’s CBD to Lygon St near Grattan St after 4am on Sunday before getting out.
One went into a convenience store. The other woman stayed on the opposite corner before she was picked up in a vehicle about 4.30am and sexually assaulted in an unknown location, police say.
She went to her northern suburbs home after the incident about 5.30am and phoned police.
Detectives are still trying to piece together the circumstances and the victim’s movements.
Police have released vision of a silver ute and three men they are urging to come forward, who police say are being treated as witnesses at this stage.
There is also another man captured walking past that police also want to hear from.
“It’s enormously concerning whenever someone is sexually assaulted, however I understand that this will be particularly worrying for people who live around that area given recent events,” Detective Inspector Steve Wilson said in a statement on Thursday afternoon.

“I want to reassure the community that we are doing absolutely everything we can to identify those responsible for this matter.
“People have the right to go out at night and enjoy themselves in our city – for a young woman’s night to end this way is absolutely unacceptable.”
It comes just days after Eurydice Dixon was raped and murdered in Princes Park on the night of June 12, after returning from performing at Melbourne’s Highlander Bar.
Anyone who saw anything suspicious or unusual around Lygon or Grattan streets about 4.30am on Sunday is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page.
