Why this hilarious missing person story has raised eyebrows

A hilarious story about a missing woman has gone viral due to its unusual ending.

A tourist on a bus trip with a group was reported missing at Iceland’s Eldgjá canyon in 2012, news site Morgunbladid reports.

The bus driver reported her missing to police after she failed to return from her walk.

She was described as of Asian appearance, about 160cm tall and between 20-30 years old.

A search party looked for the woman using ATVs and volunteer throughout the weekend.

However, it turns out the woman wasn’t missing at all and had been party of her own search party.

The reason she was reported missing is she changed her clothes during her walk around the volcano and then returned to the bus, The Reykjavic Grapevine reported.

She had no idea she was the one reported missing based on the description given.

The search was called off.

The story has gone viral after a newspaper clipping of it was shared on Twitter recently.

It had people in hysterics.

“Aren’t we all, in our own way, this woman?” one man tweeted.

One woman added she would have been “embarrassed” had she been the woman reported missing.

“I’d probably have snuck away, put my original clothes back on, and let them ‘find’ me,” she tweeted.

Another joked the woman has “potentially done quite well”.

“Some people search their whole life and never find themselves,” she tweeted..

However, some people questioned how no one realised the woman wasn’t missing.

“How do they determine someone is missing?” one man tweeted.

“They count. I think there is more to this story…”
