Woman hands husband's guns over to police, gets arrested for theft

The ex wife of a man currently behind bars accused of trying to run her down has been charged after allegedly stealing his guns.

Courtney Irby, 32, a fashion writer from Florida, was arrested and charged with armed burglary and grand theft of a firearm on June 15, a day after her ex, Joseph Irby, was jailed.

Police said she delivered the guns to the station and agreed when an officer asked if she had just “committed an armed burglary”, news site The Ledger reported.

Irby reportedly told police she collected the guns from her ex husband’s apartment on Village Center Drive in Lakeland, despite never having stayed there before.

She claimed Mr Irby “wasn’t going to turn them in” so she decided to do it herself.

From behind bars at Polk County Jail, Irby, who shares two children with the woman, said he wanted to press charges over his ex breaking in and taking his guns, reports stated.

Irby had applied for a temporary injunction against her husband, with the pair in the process of a divorce, court records showed.
