Woman discovers 'very big problem' in her baby spinach

A NSW woman has made a “disgusting” find in her spinach purchased from Coles.

The mum wrote on Facebook on Wednesday she bought the spinach from Coles at Erina on the NSW Central Coast before discovering a “very big problem”.

“I am disgusted in what I found,” she wrote.

“This could have been a very big problem for me if I had been bitten by this live redback in my bunch of spinach and its friend.”

The woman shared photos of the spider hiding in her veggies along with another bug.

Coles said in response it was “disappointed” to hear about the woman’s “unpleasant discovery”.

“We’re very sorry for the poor experience,” it wrote.

It asked for details about the purchase including a barcode and a use by date.

A Coles spokesperson told Yahoo News Australia the customer has been contacted to investigate the matter.

“As always, we encourage customers to return any item they’re not happy with to their nearest store for a full refund or replacement,” the spokesperson said.

It’s important to wash your veggies before eating them – with a Sydney woman learning that the hard way after finding a redback spider in her Coles kale in March last year.

A Sydney grandmother also found a redback in her grapes she bought from Aldi.
