Why woman is being criticised after posting photo of dead spider

A woman has been criticised online after posting a photo of a dead spider.

The woman posted a photo of the spider on the wall and one of its squashed body on Facebook on Friday morning.

She spotted the insect on a tiled surface and asked the public for help to identify the eight-legged creature.

“Can someone pls tell me what red spider this is! (sic)” she wrote on Sydney’s Facebook group Bondi Local Loop.

Social media users commented and identified the insect as a huntsman spider.

But many were critical of her killing the helpful creature which is known to consume other household pests.

“Awful, poor spider,” one Facebook user commented.

“Why kill it? They’re harmless!” another wrote.

“You just killed a spider that would never harm you, better yet it would protect you from other bad spiders, insects and bugs,” a Facebook user said.

“Huntsman, completely harmless. They are actually great, they eat a lot of insects.”

“I’m more worried about the state of your grub stained bathroom walls,” another wrote.
