If you live in Mackay, Queensland, and your name is Steve, you might consider a name change, because one woman's act has instantly put a target on your back.

A local woman named Jenny has called out a "filthy cheater" named Steve by buying a full-page ad in the local paper, Mackay and Whitsunday Life.

The paper announced on Facebook on Friday that it had been "inundated with dozens of messages" about the advert on page four, and it wanted to clear things up, they said.

"Dear Steve," the advert reads in large bold capital letters.

"I hope you're happy with her. Now the whole town will know what a filthy cheater you are."

After signing off, "from Jenny" another line proved to be the icing on the cake.

"PS I bought this ad using your credit card," it reads.

The paper was quick to clarify a few minor details they thought would be of interest to its readers.

"We do NOT know who Steve is, but apparently he’s been very very bad," the Facebook caption said.

The paper also vowed to keep details about Jenny hidden and said, "we have not charged the credit card in question."

Jenny catapulted to Facebook stardom

The scorned lover's choice of revenge was admired by Facebook users who were equally amused and impressed by the bold move.

The post racked up hundreds of likes within the first hour, with dozens celebrating the anonymous woman named Jenny.

"Jenny sounds like someone I want to be friends with," one said in the comments.

Another called Jenny a hero adding, "Jenny is my new favourite person."

"Everyone who knows a Steve and Jenny have suddenly sat up and taken notice," another wrote.

"Couldn’t love this more if I tried," a fourth added.

Bad boy Steve was a hot topic in the comments too with some warning, "you can never trust Steve" and "don't be like Steve".

Some, however, thought Jenny may have taken it a tad far.

"I think that Steve is Jenny's ex. Somehow think that she is dirty on how the whole relationship ended," one hypothesised.
