Woman, 20, 'choked and beaten' during horror roadside attack in WA

A search is underway for a man who allegedly choked and bashed a young woman in a brutal roadside attack that reportedly left her with a fractured eye socket, jaw, ribs and pelvis.

The 20-year-old was travelling through remote Western Australia with her dogs on Friday afternoon when she noticed a car had been following her, Nine News reports.

Sometime between 5pm and 7:30pm, she pulled over near Billabong Roadhouse, between Carnarvon and Geraldton, and "was approached by a man who had been driving behind her in what is believed to be a silver Holden Colorado ute", WA police told Yahoo News Australia.

The male driver asked for her number, and when she refused, he allegedly choked her unconscious and violently assaulted her, Nine News reports.

He then reportedly dragged her body under her own car, where it's believed a truck driver found her 10 hours later.

According to the publication, the woman drove herself to Jurien Bay Hospital, over 400kms away, where she was treated for her injuries.

WA Police said the woman reported the alleged assault at Jurien Bay Police Station around 7pm on Saturday.

A manhunt is now underway for the alleged attacker.

WA police said detectives would like to speak to "anyone who saw, or who has dash-cam vision of, a white Holden Colorado ute with a black bull bar and alloy tray being driven on the highway between 3pm and 9pm [on Saturday]".

"More specifically, anyone with vision showing the parking area 1-2km south of Billabong Roadhouse between 5pm and 7:30pm is asked to contact the investigating officers via Crime Stoppers," police said.
