Fake Uber driver attempts to lure Sydney schoolboy into car

An alleged near-abduction in Sydney's Lower North Shore has reminded parents to educate their children about 'stranger danger'.

The warning comes after a man approached an 11-year-old boy on Wednesday, March 9, posing as an Uber driver sent to drive him to school because buses weren't running.

The boy was waiting for a bus at 8am on Longueville Road in Lane Cove when he was approached.

In a post shared on their Facebook page, Lane Cove West Primary School said a car containing two people pulled up to the student.

"The driver remained in the car and the passenger got out of the car," the post read.

"He came up to the child and said the school buses were not running and the school was sending Ubers to pick up the kids and take them to school."

Thankfully, the primary school student declined the offer.

Police are investigating the incident

Police said they were aware of the incident and released a description of one of the men.

"Police were notified and officers attached to North Shore Police Area Command commenced an investigation," a NSW Police spokesman told Yahoo News Australia.

"The man police would like to speak with is of Indian Sub-Continental appearance, believed to be aged in his 20s, about 160cm tall, slim build with broad shoulders, and acne on his face.

"He was last seen wearing a black jumper, black tracksuit pants, black shoes and was carrying a backpack."

A post shared to social media said the man "persisted" with the story, but luckily an adult who was nearby overheard and stepped in.

"The family involved wanted to share the story as a reminder to keep the conversation around safety open and ongoing," the Facebook post in a local group read.
