Extreme winds wreak havoc across the country, with more to come
Australians on the east coast should brace for more hazardous weather this weekend.
Although Sydney has already copped the worst of it, Victorians are advised that the strong winds are sticking around.
A severe weather warning in Sydney has been cancelled, however a strong wind warning remains in place for Sydney’s coastal waterways.
Hazardous surf can be expected along the NSW coast, expect in the Byron region.
On Saturday, the Bureau of Meteorology predicted wind gusts exceeding 90km/h for the Illawarra, high parts of the South Coast, the Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands and the Snowy Mountains.
Since Thursday night, NSW’s State Emergency Service received more than 900 calls for help, 370 of them from the Sydney region.
While the winds and chills are expected to hang around for the weekend, the cold fronts sweeping the state are expected to clear up by early Monday.
More than 180 domestic flights were cancelled at Sydney Airport on Friday, and more delays can be expected if the winds continue.
Sydney Airport confirmed to Yahoo News Australia, the airport is not expecting any significant delays or disruptions due to the weather and normal operations are currently underway.
The Blue Mountains were covered in snow, with Blackheath Weather reporting there was between 5-10cm covering the ground.

One dead in Victoria as wild weather continues
Victoria can expect rain and strong winds throughout the weekend and a severe weather warning remains in place for eastern Victoria.
Snow is expected down to 500m over the weekend, while Melbourne is forecast to reach just 11C on Saturday and 12C on Sunday.
"No doubt it will feel much colder because of the wind chill," Bureau of Meteorology duty forecaster Keris Arndt said.
"Cool conditions really stay with us through the weekend though they will ease off by mid next week - but it will take a little while to get there."
Part of Frankston’s pier in southeast Melbourne snapped off and floated away due to the rough current.
The suburb had winds up to 95km/h and Wilsons Promontory recorded winds up to 128km/h.
Winds are expected to ease on Saturday to between 60 and 70km/h.
However, Central Victoria and parts of Gippsland can expect around 20 - 40mm of rain.
One woman has died after a large tree fell on a family’s car in Victoria’s Yarra Range on Friday.
A four-year-old boy who was in the car continues to fight for his life in the Royal Children’s Hospital while a second boy, five-years-old, is likely to be discharged later on Saturday.
While a destructive cold front swept through the state, more than 700 people called Victoria’s State Emergency Service for help on Friday, mainly for fallen trees.
Wind Warning’s in place around Australia
In Western Australia, a strong wind warning has been issued in the Kimberley and Pilbara, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
Marine wind warnings have also in place for the Sunshine Coast waters and Gold Coast waters on Saturday.
South Australia has also been issued a weather warning in Murray Bridge, Kingscote, Victor Harbor, Meningie and Coonalpyn.
Adelaide CBD can expect a top of 13 and showers throughout the weekend. Winds are expected to average between 50-70km/h, however it is possible they could reach up to 110km/h.
