Wild footage of truck driver’s arrest
Wild footage of a truck driver leading police on a dramatic chase down a major highway crossing state borders has been released
The truck driver was allegedly pursued by police on the M1 Motorway crossing the border from NSW into Queensland.
NSW officers tried to pull the driver over on the M1 after they observed a truck, which was pulling two trailers, being driven erratically along the motorway, as it continued towards Queensland.
When the driver crossed the border, QLD police deployed a helicopter to track the driver as he made his way up the motorway.
He was seen allegedly swerving and damaging vehicles along the way.
A tyre deflation device was used to try and stop the truck about 1.30pm near Currumbin Waters on the Gold Coast.
While the truck’s tyres deflated, the man allegedly kept driving on his rims veering onto the wrong side of the motorway before stopping near Yatala.
Vision showed the man jump out of the truck while it was still moving, wearing high vis.
He then allegedly fled on foot with police arresting him soon after as they pursued him in bushland separating the motorway.
Officers inspecting the truck after the dramatic arrest found a glass pipe on the floor of the cabin.
The 27-year old has since been charged with a string of offences including dangerous driving while affected by an intoxicating substance, driving without a licence, possessing drug paraphernalia, wilful damage and breaching bail.
He was due to appear in court on Friday.
