Wife allegedly sets fire to husband while he sleeps
A Melbourne man is fighting for life in hospital after his wife allegedly set him on fire as he slept.
The woman, 36, has been in custody for most of Wednesday afternoon after firefighters found her and her 11-year-old son of the footpath of their Macleod home when they were called just before 6am.
Inside, her husband, 49, was on fire.
It’s believed an accelerant was poured on him whilst he slept. He then ran downstairs on fire screaming out for help and woke the little boy.
Neighbour Frank Macri said the family had been living in the area for a while, and said the woman was ill.
“She told me she is sick, got cancer – you know – going to therapy and all this,” he said.
The woman and her son were taken to hospital. He was not hurt.
She was under police guard and was then taken away by detectives for questioning.
She’s yet to be charged.
The man has critical burns to his upper body and is still at the Alfred Hospital fighting for life.
