WATCH: Sydney's savage heatwave ignites fireworks in boot of luxury car

Sydney’s savage heatwave has claimed another victim, igniting a set of fireworks in the boot of a luxury at a busy north shore shopping strip.

As pedestrians tried to avoid the blistering summer heat, a luxury BMW X1 parked on Victorian Avenue in Chatswood erupted in smoke.

One brave shopper was filmed rushing to open the doors and boot of the smoke-filled car before spraying a fire extinguisher.

As smoke poured from the vehicle, the man filming the incident, Will Dodshon, was forced to back away as the heat became too much to handle.

One witness said that the car belonged to a professional pyro-technician.

“The best part is that his number plate was "pyro”, Phoenix Montgomery commented.

“As one of the firies that turned up we found this most amusing.”

And while the man’s BMW looked a little worse for wear, those who viewed the footage weren’t particularly sympathetic.

“This is one reason why fireworks were banned in most of Australia!” Matt West said.

“Fools like this person doing stupid things like leaving fireworks in vehicles on extremely high heated days.”

“Who cares about his car, it's the safety of the people nearby I am concerned about,” another added.
