Vodafone mini plans

Vodafone has made its latest bid to wedge the mobile market, launching a plan for six 12, 18 and 24-month mobile bundles.

The plan, officially revealed yesterday after a soft launch earlier this month, will enable customers to buy mobile phones in plans over shorter time frames without being "locked in" for the traditional 24 months.

The major telcos have been moving towards more flexible mobile plans, with Telstra introducing its "mobile accelerator" plan in March, allowing customers to upgrade their phone after 12 months.

Vodafone customers on a SIM-only plan can now pay off the phone in instalments in as little as six months.

Vodafone has been looking at ways to reassert itself into the mobile market after it lost one million customers last year.

Insiders see this plan, and its plan of offering capped $5-a-day international roaming fees for its customers, as an attempt to scratch at Telstra's market dominance.
