Mum makes 'absolutely disgusting' discovery in her mattress

A Victorian woman cleaning her mattress has lifted the lid on the disturbing amount of dirt hiding inside people’s beds.

The mother said she was testing her new second-hand vacuum cleaner on her mattress when she extracted a huge pile of dirt from within.

She shared disturbing images of the dust made up of hair, dead skin cells and other dirt piled up on the floor.

“Absolutely disgusted, embarrassed and shocked... all of this came from my mattress,” the mum wrote in a popular cleaning Facebook group.

She begged members of the group not to “crucify” her and said she merely wanted to warn others who may not be aware of such a build-up.

Many were equally taken aback by the mass pulled from the bed.

“How does this even happen?!” one person queried.

“I never knew you should vacuum your mattress!” another declared.

One person said they “shudder” to think what would be found in a hotel mattress.

However several mothers said they were well aware of the build up of skin cells inside a mattress, which rubbed off while sleeping.

They said they regularly vacuumed their mattress as well as using mattress protectors.

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, the body gets rid of up to 40,000 dead skin cells every day.
