WATCH: Internet divided over who's at fault as P-plate driver crashes attempting to merge

The internet is divided over who's at fault as a P-plate driver crashed into a car attempting to merge lanes in Carnegie, Victoria on Tuesday.

Dashcam footage shows the failed merge, which sparked intense debate on who was at fault after it was posted to Dash Cam Owners Australia's Facebook page.

She can be heard shouting "you're an idiot" as she clips the merging car's bonnet.

But Facebook users were quick to get behind the driver attempting to merge, accusing the other driver of letting ego get in the way.

"There was no reason this person couldn't of slowed down or break to allow the car to merge," one viewer wrote.

"I would hate to think if the driver had a child or baby in the car and this person caused serious injury just to prove a point and protect their ego."

But other viewers said the merger was at fault.

"Keep doing it mate, I've started doing the same thing to d***heads that do the whole speed down the left lane to try and get ahead of everyone," one man wrote.

At last count, the Facebook post had 1700 likes, had generated 3000 comments and had been shared 231 times.
