Missing Melbourne mum spoke to neighbour about 'personal matter' hours before vanishing

A neighbour who had a "personal" talk with missing Melbourne mum Elisa Curry and watched her go to bed was the last person to see her before she vanished.

Widespread air, land and sea searches have so far failed to find Ms Curry, with police now fearing the chances of of finding her alive are "remote" if she became lost in the region's dense bushland.

The neighbour and her husband visited Ms Curry, 42, at her Aireys Inlet holiday home on Saturday night and the wife later returned to continue the chat.

“We’ve spoken to neighbours, they’ve given their idea of how she was feeling — it doesn’t help us in any way,” Inspector Seel told reporters on Thursday.

“She was quite upbeat about the result of the Grand Final but apart from that, nothing of interest.”

Inspector Seel said the topic of discussion was "a personal matter" and he would not be going into the fine details.

As the search moves into its fifth day, Insp. Seel said medical and expert advice did not bode well for the Melbourne mum if she made it into the bush.

“Medical advice and expert advice is that if she's in the bush, the likelihood of her being alive is remote,” he added.

“We just want to double check. We've done it once but there might be people we haven't spoken to, sheds we haven't checked. It's just part of the search pattern," he added.

"Without any real witnesses to tell us she was seen leaving the home [at] whatever time on Sunday morning or the middle of the night, we just don't know."

Police believe she may have gone for a run early on Sunday morning.

Insp Seel said the Curry family is becoming increasingly distressed by her disappearance.

“I spoke to her husband David yesterday,” Insp Curry said.

“As you expect, he's very upset.

“He is very concerned about his children's welfare and of course his wife's. He is trying to hold up as best he can for the children.”

It's now day five of the search efforts to find the 42-year-old and crews here have been scaled right back.

There are no longer members from the SES or from the Country Fire Authority – only Victoria Police continues the search for the missing mum.

The Herald Sun also reported Mrs Curry, a regulator contributor to the newspaper’s debates, sent a text about same sex marriage on the day of her disappearance.

On Wednesday afternoon authorities will search vacant properties near her holiday home and speak with neighbours in the hope that someone may have seen her before she disappeared.
