Owner reveals secrets to 'world's oldest' cat's long and happy life
A Werribee moggie named Teddy is still going strong at 26, thanks to a lot of love - and a daily shower.
Teddy's owner Fran English adopted him when his elderly owner was no longer able to care for him.
She didn't realise his age until she received her new pet's details from the council - stating he was born in 1991.
"I was pretty shocked," Fran said.
Teddy is a creature of habit - he likes to bask in the sun, eat rosemary and have a shower every day.
"He used to try and get in the shower with me so I decided to let him get in one day and it just took off from there," Fran said.
Now it's part of his daily routine, including a dry off and using a ramp to hop into bed.
The 26 year old - which is the equivalent of about 120 human years - leaves an impression on everyone he meets.
"Generally he's a grumpy cat, as you would expect with his advanced age," but we get along well," Teddy's vet Phanuel Mponda said.
"He's very friendly and outgoing - he always wants to be amongst everything that's going on," Fran said.
There is currently no record holder for the oldest living cat, so it seems Teddy might be in with a chance.
The oldest cat on record was a 38-year-old called Creme Puff from Texas.
Fran has officially applied to the Guinness World Records.
"He's so beautiful and I think he deserves it," she said.
