WATCH: Dramatic vision as man jumps from carpark roof to avoid arrest after alleged carjacking

Dramatic vision has been released of the moments before an alleged member of a carjacking gang was arrested as he leaps off a carpark roof.

The man was allegedly part of a violent gang that left a man in a coma.

Cornered on top of a three storey carpark, and desperate to avoid arrest, he decides that his best option is to take a flying leap.

Not surprisingly, the man was hurt when he landed.

One of his co-accused, Shayne Richardson, has pleaded guilty to his role in a carjacking that lead to the carpark drama and nearly cost a man his life.

In March, a 32-year-old man was bashed and robbed outside his home in Box Hill South and left in a coma for four days.

The 21-year-old admitted to robbing the victim and also pleaded guilty to car theft.

He had been on bail at the time of the attack.

He won't be required to do any unpaid community work during his two-year community corrections order.

The victim's wife is appalled that Richardson avoided jail.

"It's not fair, yeah, it's just not fair," she said.

Three months later, her husband is still not well enough to work.

"I have no income now," the man said.

"So, it's a big problem for my family now."

In contrast, the accused attacker who took the flying leap has fully recovered.
