'She tried to run him over six times': Alleged hit-and-run driver charged with murdering partner

A Melbourne woman has been charged with murder after allegedly running down her partner in a fatal hit-and-run crash.

Emergency services were called to Sunbury car park about 6.15am on Sunday and found Richie Powell, 32, dead at the scene.

His partner, Jess Lee Donker, 29, was arrested and charged with one count of murder after fleeing from the scene.

“(She) tried to run him over, probably five, six times,” a witness told 7 News.

“And then, finally she got him with that, she hit a pole, he was behind a pole, and she got him.

“She stopped the car to have a look. And she started screaming and then she went back to the car, spun up the road.”

Victoria Police detective acting senior sergeant Nick Densley said: “It appears that there may have been a number of events that led up to this incident between those parties."

Ms Donker faced an out of sessions court hearing on Sunday night and is set to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Monday.
