Hilarity ensues after abandoned trolley named Trevor learns a few tricks around neighbourhood
A Facebook rant by a Melbourne comic genius who hit out at Officeworks has gone viral after the store failed to collect an abandoned trolley left in his street for almost a week.
In Andrew Mitchell’s post to the Officeworks Facebook Page on Sunday he said he called the Werribee store, in Melbourne’s western suburbs, twice to request the trolley be collected, but said it was still there four days later.
“He was still at our front door and was getting frightened because he thought you didn't love him anymore,” he wrote in his first post on Sunday.
“As your can see he is still here, and now he's sad that you've forgotten him. Please help.”
After no response from the office supply megastore, Mr Mitchell edited the post subsequent times, with hilarious updates on the trolley he named ‘Trevor’ getting out and about around the neighbourhood.
In his first edit, Mr Mitchell said he had been racing Trevor at high speeds.
“Does anybody know a really big hill in the western suburbs of Melbourne, preferably with a large water source at the bottom of the hill? I've got a great idea for a YouTube video, I'll make heaps of cash if I survive,” a subsequent edit asked.
That’s when the hilarious photo montage began, where Trevor was spotted playing with a doll house, mowing the lawn and taking selfies in Mr Mitchell’s yard.
On Sunday night Mr Mitchell said Trevor was sitting outside “alone and frightened, and looks through the window of our house as our family eats our dinner”.
“Have you ever seen a lonely puppy? Trevor feels the same way and it's heartbreaking that Officeworks could do such a thing to an innocent trolley. How do they sleep at night?”
The thread was shared 44,000 times and received more than 10,000 comments in less than 24 hours, as Facebook users joined in the fun posting sightings of Trevor’s ‘relatives’ spotted in their neighbourhoods.
On Monday Morning Officeworks reported on update on the thread, confirming Trevor was “safe and sound back with his friends and family” after taking a “stroll” back to the store on Sunday night,
“Trevor will now undergo intensive counseling to ensure he’s ready to go back to work,” an admin Dave wrote.
He kept the joke going, saying “Trevor got to meet Ryan Gosling & Russell Crowe on his way home & then enjoyed a hot chocolate with his mates before playing around with a ball for a little while,” accompanied with a photo of Trevor beside a bus stop movie poster, and another reunited with other trolleys in the store.
“He’s asked us to thank Andrew Mitchell for teaching him how to take selfies, mow the lawn & walk the dog and for taking such good care of him,” David added.
