Vegan fined for pulling knife on mum after smelling bolognese sauce
A vegan has been fined and ordered to pay compensation after threatening to kill her mum with a knife, when she smelled her meaty Bolognese sauce simmering in the kitchen.
A Justice of the Peace ruled the woman must pay a court fine of over $600 and almost $800 of compensation to her mother after the bizarre incident that took place in March 2016.
The case was argued in the Modena tribunal and reported by local outlet, the Gazzetta di Modena newspaper.
The 48-year-old vegan had recently moved back home to the Emilia Romagna district of Italy and was living with her mother.
After becoming frustrated by the aroma of the meat sauce bubbling away on the stove, the vegan threatened her 69-year-old mother with a knife.
“If you won’t stop on your own then I’ll make you stop,” she said, according to the mother’s civil complaint, The Telegraph UK reported.
“Quit making ragù, or I’ll stab you in the stomach.”
The episode followed a series of aggressive confrontations between the pair, who disagreed over attitudes to food.
