'I almost threw up': Woman's revolting find in plane food

As if plane food wasn’t hard enough to stomach, one woman made a horrifying discovery when she peeled back the plastic foil on her snackbox.

Jamie Lunde was flying with United Airlines and decided to order a US$10 (AU$14.45) tapas box on the flight as a light snack.

However, it was only after taking a few bites from the hummus dip that she made a disgusting discovery about the food item.

“I purchased this Tapas box last night on United flight 1613,” Ms Lunde shared with her Instagram followers on Wednesday.

Her picture of the dip shows a layer of mould underneath its foil lid, beside an empty portion of the hommus which the woman had already been eaten.

“I started eating it before I completely removed the foil on top. Almost threw up when I saw the mould,” Ms Lunde added.

Adding insult to injury, the passenger claims the flight crew charged her for the gross snack twice, instead of refunding her.

People could not believe the amount of mould in the dip and started tagging United Airlines in the comments so they could see it.

“Disgusting,” one person wrote.

Another added: “That is terrible!!! #unitedairlines fix this.”

A third simply said: “Flying is a joke these days”.

A United Airlines spokesperson apologised for the incident, telling the UK Sun it was “sorry” to hear the snack was not up the airline’s “usual high standard" of food.

"We have reached out to the customer directly to apologise and will review this matter with our catering supplier," the spokesperson said.
