Unite shows good behaviour

Kalgoorlie Police are happy with the success of Operation Unite, saying statistics show people were fairly well behaved over the weekend.

The national operation cracked down on drunken violence and anti-social behaviour.

Senior Sergeant Tom Stafford said the holiday period often resulted in slightly increased levels of crime and the results from the campaign were a positive note.

“Given that all licensed venues were at full capacity over the weekend, and the number of Christmas parties and functions that were held, it is a good result,” he said.

“There were 753 random breath tests conducted during the operation and there were only four drivers found to be driving with a blood alcohol content in excess of 0.08 per cent, which hopefully means the community is starting to get the message.”

Police are planning to launch a follow-up campaign in the coming weeks.
