Two men shot in Sydney's Inner West

The two victims have been rushed to hospital with gunshot wounds.

Two men have been shot in Sydney's Inner West on Friday afternoon.

The incident occurred on Marrickville Road around 1.50 pm with emergency services arriving at the scene after reports that shots had been fired.

Two men were located with gunshot wounds and were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being rushed to hospital.

One victim, aged 20, is in critical condition after being shot in the chest. The other victim, 33, was taken to hospital in a stable condition with a gunshot wound in his buttocks.

A crime scene has been established and an investigation has commenced by local detectives to understand the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Specialist forensic officers will assist with the investigation.

Photos from the scene appear to show blood stained tea towels on the ground next to officers.

Authorities are have confirmed two vehicle fires in Marrickville and Dulwich Hill are linked to the shooting.

Witness recalls seeing a car speed off after gunshots

A witness told Yahoo News Australia she spotted a car drive away after shots were fired, shortly before emergency services arrived at the scene. The woman believes the two victims were customers of a hair salon situated on the same street where the shooting took place.

Residents have confirmed a police helicopter has also been sighted in Marrickville.

Police confirm shooting was 'targeted attack'

During a press conference on Friday afternoon, police confirmed the shooting was a "targeted attack".

"It's not random, it's fortunate that no other member of the public was involved in the incident," NSW Police Superintendent Despa Fitzgerald said.

Authorities are searching for a Toyota Camry with registration plate DMM59H which has been linked to an offender of the shooting.

Police are appealing to any members of the public who have dash cam or CCTV footage.
