Trump returns to X to post his mug shot

After a hiatus of more than two years, former President Donald Trump returned to X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, on Thursday night following his booking at the Fulton County Jail on election fraud charges.

Trump posted an image of his mug shot since the reinstatement of his account, which was banned after the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.

The account was reinstated late last year after Elon Musk bought the company.

"NEVER SURRENDER!” read the caption underneath Trump's mug shot that was posted to his account after he surrendered.

"It's a sad day for America."

It’s a presidential portrait that’s sure to go down in history. The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia publicly released a mug shot of former President Donald Trump after he was booked at the facility Thursday evening, on 13 felony counts stemming from his alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election results in that state.

Trump and 18 of his allies, who are also in the process of surrendering, were named in a 98-page indictment last week that outlines a long list of alleged crimes, including racketeering (under Georgia RICO laws), conspiracy to commit forgery, filing of false documents and soliciting a violation of oath by a public officer. The Georgia indictment is Trump’s fourth since leaving office in January 2021.

Even though it’s also Trump’s fourth time being booked and processed on criminal charges, Thursday was the first time his mug shot was taken, the day after the first 2024 Republican presidential debate in Milwaukee, which he notably skipped.

Trump: 'I did nothing wrong'

Former President Donald Trump briefly spoke to members of the press Thursday evening before boarding his private jet at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport after turning himself in to be booked on criminal charges at the Fulton County Jail.

Trump — who was indicted in Georgia last week on several felony counts stemming from his efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss in the state, denied any wrongdoing — saying “what has taken place here is a travesty of justice. I did nothing wrong.”

The former president claimed that he had simply exercised his right to challenge the results of the 2020 election, which he claimed was “stolen” and “dishonest,” and decried the charges against him as politically motivated.

“What they're doing is election interference,” Trump said. “This is their way of campaigning.”

Bomb threat at Fulton County Courthouse

While Trump was being processed in Atlanta, police were investigating a bomb threat at the Fulton County Courthouse, NBC News reports, citing the county sheriff's office.

Trump was booked at the Fulton County Jail — not at the courthouse, which is more than four miles away.

Per NBC, the sheriff's office later determined there was no threat.

'Inmate No. P01135809'

Former President Donald Trump turned himself in at the Fulton County Jail to be booked on felony election fraud charges. And like any other defendant, Trump was given an inmate number: P01135809, according to jail records.

The booking included listings for Trump's height (6' 3"), weight ("215 lbs"), hair and eye color ("Blond or Strawberry" and "Blue") — all of which was self-reported, according to ABC News.

Trump has been released

The former president arrived at the Fulton County Jail shortly after 7:30 p.m. local time to surrender, and he has already been released after a booking that took less than 30 minutes.

Trump's motorcade is now headed back to the airport as the world awaits the release of his expected mug shot.
