Tragic update after family perish in horrific highway crash

Days after a fiery car crash killed his wife and children, a father succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

On July 31, Thomas Dobosz, 31, and his wife Lauren were driving with their four children and one of their friends along a highway in the state of Illinois in the US when they were struck by a car driving in the wrong direction.

All five children and Ms Dobosz were killed following the crash and now it has been confirmed Mr Dobosz has also died.

One of the GoFundMe pages set up to benefit the Dobosz family announced his death in an update.

"Tom has gained his angel wings and is now with his amazing wife Lauren and precious children," the GoFundMe said.

"We ask that you keep this family in your prayers. All proceeds are going to the family."

The news of the dad's passing was also confirmed by a police statement.

The woman driving the other vehicle involved in the crash, Jennifer Fernandez, 22, also died.

Cars become engulfed in flames following crash

Following the crash, Mr Dobosz was taken to hospital in serious condition. At the time of the collision, he was behind the wheel.

He is the eighth person to die due to the crash.

When the two vehicles collided on July 31, they both became engulfed in flames, NBC Chicago reported.

It is not known why Ms Fernandez was driving on the wrong side of the road.

The Dobosz's children were aged 13 to five years old and the friend who also died in the crash was 13.

The school district where the children went to school said the community was "simply heartsick" following the deaths of the five students and their mother.

The statement was released before Mr Dobosz died and also said mental health professionals would be there for assistance during the school week, NBC Chicago reported.

Another GoFundMe was set up by Ms Dobosz's parents who said they were at a "loss for words" following the tragic event.

"We have lost our beautiful daughter, Lauren, and our precious grandkids," they wrote, adding they were praying for their son-in-law while he was still in the ICU.
