The tragic story behind heartbreaking photo of reunited siblings

A heartbreaking image reveals the moment Zachary, 5, and Angela, 8, greeted each other for the first time on Wednesday since the fatal accident in Sterling City, Texas, on April 7.

The pair can be seen lying in a hospital bed wearing neck braces, holding hands in an emotional reunion.

Their brothers, Wyatt, 4, and Nicholas, 2, also survived the crash that killed their parents Jim Alan Clemens, 31, and Karisa Brianne Clemens, 29, along with their two-month-old daughter Juliana, KTXS reported.

“[Zachary] was able to leave his bed and get into the wheelchair for the first time,” Ms Clemens’ aunt, Teresa Burrell, wrote on a Facebook Fundraiser page for the children’s medical expenses as well as their parents’ funeral costs.

“He and Angie were able to see each other for the first time. Angie has had a lot of brain injuries, but yesterday she was able to read and sing with us.

“Our hearts are so full of the miracles we are experiencing.”

Zachary, Angela and Wyatt were all critically injured in the accident and have been receiving ongoing treatment at Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth.

Wyatt was able to greet his big sister on April 20 from their wheelchairs, before blowing kisses at one another.

According to the crash report, the San Antonio family was heading south on Highway 87 in their Chevrolet Suburban when a passing driver veered into the family’s car, leaving its the driver with serious injuries.

A YouCaring page has also been set up for the children, with a combined $175,000 raised between the two fundraisers.

Ms Burrell, who started the Facebook page, told San Antonio Live the support from Texas citizens had been “amazing”.
