Tragedy as three children die after becoming trapped in freezer

Three young children have died after being found unresponsive inside a freezer.

Authorities say the children aged 1, 4 and 6 were playing outside a home in Live Oak, in north Florida, and climbed into an unplugged chest freezer on Sunday afternoon (local time).

It is understood the children lived at the house with their mothers who are roommates and two of the children were siblings.

The Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office said one of the women went inside to use the restroom and could not find the children upon returning.

She woke up the other mother and they began searching the property, and an adjacent vacant home for the children.

When they opened the chest freezer, they discovered all three children inside of it, not breathing.

They started administering CPR and called 911, but the children could not be revived.

The sheriff’s office says foul play is not suspected.

The case will be forwarded for review to prosecutors.
