Tragedy as girl, 1, hit and killed by car in Sydney driveway

A one-year-old girl was struck and killed by a car in a driveway in Sydney’s west.

Emergency services responded to reports of a car hitting a child in a driveway just before 7.30pm (AEDT) on Tuesday at a townhouse complex in Blacktown.

When police from Blacktown Area Command attended the scene, the one-year-old girl was found in a critical condition, NSW Police said in a statement.

The toddler was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics at the scene and was then taken to Westmead Children’s Hospital, where she died.

The 40-year-old man who was driving the car at the time of the accident was treated at the scene for shock and was then taken to Blacktown Hospital for mandatory testing.

A crime scene has been established and police are investigating the circumstances around the incident.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
