A three-year-old boy has been found dead in a mini-bus in front of a school in far-north Queensland.
The boy was discovered in Edmonton Tuesday at 3.15pm in the parked mini-bus, according to Queensland Police.
The circumstances surrounding the death are being investigated by Cairns detectives from the Child Protective Investigation Unit.
“We're just trying to work out exactly what's happened,” Inspector Jason Smith told Channel Nine.
“The death of any child is an awful thing, which is why it is so important for us to get to the bottom of this,” he said.
Police told Nine News the boy boarded the bus on Tuesday morning and was supposed to be dropped off at a local daycare centre.
Nine News also reported that it was the bus driver who discovered the boy’s body this afternoon. The driver was treated for shock at the scene and then taken to hospital.
Edmonton reached a high of 33 degrees on Tuesday.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
