Thousands of giant maggots wash up on shore of popular beach

This stomach-churning video shows thousands of massive maggots washed up on an iconic beach on the US’ east coast.

The video was taken on Hampton Beach in New Hampshire – a world-renowned holiday destination for the rich and famous with its dramatic coastline and clean beaches.

But the video shows a very different side to the destination.

According to Ryan Fowler who captured the footage while out on a walk, the coastline has been plagued by a high level of bacteria and even faeces in the sea water in recent months.

Mr Fowler said that he came across the gag-inducing sight while the ocean was at high tide.

“It was high tide and we noticed thousands of maggots washing ashore,” he said.

“This is something we have never seen. This comes after high levels of faeces and bacteria were detected in the water just north.

“Further north there have been massive amounts of dead fish and seals washing ashore in Maine.”

The same issue plagued Sydney beaches earlier this year, with millions of maggots spotted on the coastline in January.
