'They've taken my child': Woman behind giant billboard for missing dog shares her grief

A Queensland woman who has paid for a billboard to encourage people to look for her missing dog has spoken about her desperation to find the pet she regards as her “child”.

Anna Gerbanas says her French bulldog Frank was stolen from her Logan Reserve home more than a month ago.

Puppies of Frank’s breed can fetch up to $15,000 making them popular among thieves.

She told Sunrise on Friday morning that just because the puppies were expensive it never occurred to her that it could be stolen.

“Maybe I was naive to think that all people are good, but it never crossed my mind, just because they are expensive, someone would come in and take your child.”

Ms Gerbanas has been overwhelmed by support since she spent $1200 on a roadside billboard in her bid to find Frank who was taken when she went out for a couple of hours on February 2 to celebrate her 24th birthday.

“We had had lots of people contact us, either messaging their support or saying they’ve seen a dog that looks like Frank.

“It hasn’t really brought up any solid leads but it’s definitely gotten his face out there and has more people looking for him.”

She said she’s been very emotional since Frank was taken.

“It’s very hard to not come home to him because he was always so excited to see you,” she told Today Tonight.

“Not waking up next to him is so devastating.”

While reporting the theft to police, Anna took it upon herself to conduct her own investigations around the Logan area.

She initially went door knocking in hope someone knew something before handing out flyers and putting up posters.

She has now set up a Facebook page and made the big investment to place Frank’s image on a billboard in Waterford.

“True dog lovers will understand that he is your child,” she said.

“Frankie is my baby.”

She has asked for the local community to remain vigilant and get in touch via the search’s Facebook page while taking photos of the dog if unsure.
