'Cult school' dancer teacher shot dead by lover

A British dance teacher living in the US has been shot dead in his home apparently by his son-in-law, who was also a former lover.

Scott Rogers was shot on the day he was due to appear before a Grand Jury in Louisiana related to potential fraud over allegedly using false names when he applied to become a foster parent in the US.

Mr Rogers, a US talkshow host and former British dance teacher, was reportedly shot by Mathew Hodgkinson in an attempted murder-suicide.

The BBC reports Mr Hodgkinson, who was married to Mr Rogers' daughter Kimmy, joined Mr Rogers in America to work as a producer on the Around Town Show aired by WAFB-TV.

Mr Hodgkinson is in a critical condition in hospital after turning the gun on himself.

The Daily Mail reports Mr Rogers was well-known in Suffolk where he founded the Academy of Dancing and Performing Arts in 1983.

The school was likened to a "religious cult" by Suffolk County Council bosses and parents were warned of the "perceived risk" of sending children to the school.

Mr Hodgkinson was a former student of Mr Rogers at the academy.

Mr Rogers left Britain in the 1990s amid increasing concerns about the academy.

After news of Mr Rogers' death emerged, two men spoke on Louisians radio and accused him of sexually abusing them as boys. One said he met Mr Rogers at the dance academy.

Authorities removed two children from the Rogers family home in Iberville - where Mr Hodgkinson also lived - about two weeks before the shooting.
