Dancing maestro's love of training

Having taught dance full-time for 52 years, Daele Fraser could have retired by now.

But she hasn't been able to because of her love of music and dedication to training young dancers.

"I still love it and whether you're training someone to pass a medal or compete for the first time, or training a couple to represent Australia, all those little achievements add up in the end," Ms Fraser said.

"That's still exciting for me."

The doyenne of Perth ballroom dancing, Ms Fraser has coached some of WA's most successful and high-profile dancers. She has represented Australia as a judge in 12 different countries, and today she receives the Medal of the Order of Australia for her service to the performing arts, particularly dance.

Ms Fraser, who specialises in the ballroom, Latin American and New Vogue dance styles, has also done 50 years of honorary work on committees and organising events.

She counts organising tours to Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia to promote goodwill between each country's dancers among her most important work.
