Lifesavers busy amid beach crowds

Perth surf lifesavers had a busy day as the city had a taste of beach weather as the mercury hit 35.5C.

Early in the day, Surf Life Saving WA attended to a 12-year-old girl who has suspected spinal injuries after being dumped at Leighton Beach this morning.

SLSWA tweeted at 10.45am that an ambulance was called to take the girl to hospital.

Around 3.45pm, an ambulance was called to Mullaloo Beach to attend to a suspected spinal injury.

While she was there, two men in distress were pulled from the surf amid the thousands frollicking in the water and on the sand.

In the South West, around 4pm a 4m shark was spotted near the Busselton Jetty and the Westpac Lifesaver Helicopter spotted a 2.5m shark 500m south of the Wilyabrup Cliffs, 70m offshore this morning.

Yesterday, the chopper crew spotted two majestic sea giants off Meelup, which made for a spectacular photo.

Today was the day to take advantage of the hot weather with the Weather Bureau forecasting maximum temperatures in the 20s and possible showers for the rest of the week.

Tomorrow is expected to be partly cloudy with a maximum of 27C. There is a slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm about the hills in the afternoon and evening.

Winds north to northwesterly 25 to 40 km/h tending west to northwesterly 15 to 25 km/h in the middle of the day then becoming light in the evening.

There is a chance of rain accompanying the 24C max for Tuesday.
