Hitchhiker injures driver in Roleystone

A man was injured after stopping to pick up a hitchhiker in Perth’s south-eastern suburbs last night.

The man was driving a green Toyota Celica coupe south along Tonkin Highway near Abernethy Road about 7pm when he stopped to offer a lift to the male hitchhiker.

As they approached Canning Mills Road in Roleystone the hitchhiker produced a gun and assaulted the driver before stealing his wallet and mobile phone.

The victim, a 22-year-old man from Maddington, suffered minor injuries and was treated at Armadale Kelmscott Hospital.

The offender is about 50 to 60 years of age and has short brown hair.
