A teacher who allegedly "sexually engaged" with a police officer posing as a child on the internet has been charged with child exploitation.
The 30-year-old Hillarys man, who is also a sports coach and held a Working with Children card, allegedly used an online chat, which included a web camera link, to engage with who he believed was a 13-year-old girl in January.
The "child" was in fact a police officer conducting a covert operation.
Police said the man expressed a desire to meet the "child" and "sexually engaged" with the internet user.
Police on Tuesday charged the man with using electronic communication with the intent to procure a child believed to be under 16 years in sexual activity and one count of using electronic communication with the intent to expose a child to indecent matter.
Sex Crime Division Detective Inspector Eric Smith said the arrest served as a reminder that police continue to identify offenders using social media sites to exploit children.
The man is scheduled to appear in Joondalup Magistrate's Court on February 13.
