Adams still at Kwinana helm

Kwinana Town Council mayor Carol Adams has held onto her position after being sworn in unopposed by councillors, including one newly elected councillor and four re-elected councillors.

After the ceremony, Cr Adams said she was ‘‘thrilled that the councillors had faith in her leadership’’.

‘‘I’m very excited to have the opportunity to build on all the great work we have achieved in Kwinana over the past six years,’’ she said.

In the fight for the deputy mayor position, Crs DennisWood and Ruth Alexander tied in the vote, forcing councillors into a second vote.

Cr Alexander was named deputy mayor after round two, gaining the position five votes to three.

Seven candidates were in the race for the four Kwinana Town Council’s positions.

Cr Wood, Barrie Donohoe from Wandi, Bryan Corker from Calista, Cr Sherilyn Wood, Cr Peter Feasey, Wendy Cooper from Wellard, and Victor Smith from Kwinana were all vying for positions on the council.

Crs Dennis and Sherilyn Wood, Cr Feasy and Wendy Cooper were elected.

DennisWoodwill hold onto his position after eight years as councillor and one term as deputy mayor while Cr Feasey was also reinstated.

Wendy Cooper polled the highest out of the seven candidates and is the only new councillor to be elected this term.

‘‘The acceptance of my request to represent the Kwinana community as a councillor is most reassuring,’’ she said.

‘‘I look forward to being part of an already committed team.

‘‘Kwinana is at an exciting time of growth and development and has so much to offer.’’

A total of 12,621 valid votes were counted, which puts the participation rate at 24.8 per cent.
