Murphy’s 10 profits Trinity Aquinas

Trinity Aquinas full-forward Ryan Murphy had a breakout game in round five of the WA Amateur Football League on Saturday.

The former South Fremantle and Fremantle forward booted 10 goals in Trinity’s huge win over top team Kelmscott, whose balloon was pricked after four wins to open the season.

TAs won 23.11 to 7.4 and took over top spot on the ladder. Murphy, in his first season for Trinity Aquinas, took his season’s tally to 18.

Quinten Lynch, another big-name recruit, had what was considered his best game so far, playing mainly in the ruck.

Kelmscott’s percentage took a massive hit, dropping to 109 and putting them fourth now behind Fremantle CBC (second) and West Coast (third), both of whom had solid wins.

Each of the top four teams are 4-1. Fremantle CBC had a 46-point win over North Beach, 13.8 to 6.4, and West Coast handled Mt Lawley 13.10 to 9.11.

West Coast forward Brad Bennett booted seven goals to give him 19 for the season, following his 52 last year.

Wesley Curtin kept reigning premiers University at bay, winning a low-scoring encounter 9.7 to 8.5, a surprise given Uni had beaten Trinity by five goals the week before. It was some measure of revenge for Wesley, who lost the grand final to University last year.

Wesley coach Kris Miller has returned to playing after being a non-playing coach for the early rounds.

North Fremantle had a solid home win over winless Kalamunda, 12.15 to 8.8. Brett Peake kicked four goals for North Freo, as did Thomas Seccull in his first senior game for the season.

In B Grade, Maddington had their first win, a thriller over Kingsway, 12.11 to 12.8. Vincenzo Napoli kicked eight goals for Maddington. Swan Athletic remained unbeaten by winning narrowly at Whitford, 9.4 to 7.8.
