Fremantle have made the first cuts to their playing list, with rookies Sam Menegola and Michael Wood axed this afternoon.

The decision appears to have ended the AFL career of Menegola, who failed to break through for a senior appearance in three seasons at the Dockers.

The East Fremantle product was originally taken with pick No.44 in the 2011 rookie draft, having previously spent a season on the list of premiers Hawthorn.

A serious knee injury wrecked his 2013 season, while he was unable to break into Fremantle’s line-up despite playing 14 matches with WAFL affiliate Peel Thunder this year.

Wood, 20, was de-listed after just one season with the Dockers.

Taken at No.32 in last year’s rookie draft, the Subiaco forward played 13 matches for Peel in the WAFL this season.

He kicked five goals from 25 disposals in round 19, but also failed to earn a promotion to the club’s senior list.

The rookie-listed pair join retirees Kepler Bradley and Scott Gumbleton as those leaving the club after a disappointing season where Fremantle bowed out of finals in straight sets.
