No US Open butterflies for Perth's lethal Lee

Teenage star Minjee Lee believes she will be better for having already made her major debut when she tees off at Pinehurst for the US Open on Thursday.

The world No.1 amateur played at the first major of the year - the Kraft Nabisco Championship in California - in April and will back that up at the prestigious US Open after earning her place in qualifying last month. She was the best-performed amateur in California and is hoping to at least match that at Pinehurst.

"I think it definitely helps that I played in the first major," Lee said.

"I sort of know what to expect and I can go out there and do my best. I'm not really setting a goal, but to get low amateur would be good."

Lee had a practice round at the famous course during her last trip to the US.

"I think it's going to play tough," she said.

"Apparently it's a little bit different to what the normal US Opens are like because the rough is dumped with sand so there's no rough anymore at Pinehurst.

"The rough always comes as a factor but this time it won't.

"It probably won't affect the girls as much because we hit it a little bit shorter than the men."

Lee will stay with Karrie Webb during the week as part of the Australian veteran's scholarship program.

"I went last year but this time I'm playing," Lee said.

"We're pretty comfortable with staying with her. We did ask her a couple of questions last year but she would just share her experience with us without us having to ask questions."
