Tight finishes in most grades

Close to 90 Peel District Cycling Club riders took a chance on the weather on Saturday and were rewarded with fine conditions at the Dog Hill circuit.

The juniors were first away and it was Lowen Ferry first, from Jake Brown and Ari Zuvela.

E-grade were first to finish, with John Chambers winning the bunch sprint from Zoe Stolton and Ken Portman.

D-grade went out hard on the first lap and shed a few riders.

The pace eased and tactics came into play.

The bunch stayed together and the race ended in a bunch sprint, with the judges awarding the win to Frank Wittwer by the narrowest of margins from Rob Mold and John Bywater.

In C-grade, Paul Zuvela won the bunch sprint from Tim Boardman and Steve Reilly.

In B-grade, the bunch sprint was won by Paul Lee, from Nigel Stella second and Martin Clarke third.

By contrast in the A-grade, Matthew Upton and Ryan Wilmott escaped early and were not chased down, with Upton winning the sprint from Wilmott.

Luke Pledger snuck off the front with a lap to go to snare third place.

Senior riders have a two-week break, as Peel District Cycling Club hosts the best junior riders in WA at the Peel Junior Tour at the Perth Motorplex from 9am next Saturday.
