We won't trade Shuey: Simpson
West Coast coach Adam Simpson has dismissed speculation that star midfielder Luke Shuey would be traded back to Victoria.
And the Eagles ruled themselves out of the running for Hawthorn forward Shane Savage, saying they are pursuing only Brisbane's Elliot Yeo.
Shuey's name had been linked to Melbourne, with the possibility of him returning home so the Eagles could acquire the second pick in the national draft.
West Coast already have pick six, so it would give them a stranglehold on the early selections.
But Simpson said there was no chance the club would trade the 23-year-old.
"He's not going anywhere. He's one of us," Simpson said.
Yeo is one of five Lions seeking a new home. Jared Polec, Billy Longer, Patrick Karnezis and Sam Docherty are also looking to play elsewhere in 2014.
Brisbane coach Justin Lepp- itsch tried to convince the youngsters to remain with the club but has conceded they want to leave.
"We won't stand in the way of the kids getting home but we have to be compensated," Leppitsch said.
West Coast have selections six, 24 and 40 in the national draft. The Lions want pick 24 for Yeo, but West Coast's initial offer is pick 40.
The former East Fremantle midfielder has played 27 games since being chosen by the Lions as pick 30 in the 2011 national draft.
"We're in the early stages of discussions with Brisbane. Very early," West Coast list manager Craig Vozzo said.
"We haven't made a lot of ground. We're still discussing an appropriate selection."
Fremantle general manager of football operations Chris Bond tipped a quiet trade period for the Dockers, but said they were assessing more free agents after recruiting Melbourne's Colin Sylvia last week.
The Dockers have been linked to Geelong premiership forward James Podsiadly because they need another marking forward.
Podsiadly is 32 but Fremantle wouldn't have to trade with the Cats to recruit him.
"We're looking at all players that have been de-listed. We've obviously been active already in the free agency and will continue to do that," Bond said.
"We've obviously got some key areas that we need to look at but we'll just take our time.
"We've said all along there's certainly holes in our list, as there is in most teams.
"But we're really comfortable with our list at the moment. We think they've worked extremely hard over the last five or six years and will continue to do so, so we won't be making any drastic changes."
Contracted forward Josh Mell- ington has asked to be traded but Bond said no club showed interest in the Victorian yesterday.
"There's a fair bit of time," Bond said. "He's asked for a trade so we'll just work through it."
Gold Coast football manager Marcus Ashcroft has denied rumours that the club would trade former No.1 draft pick David Swallow.
Ashcroft said Swallow, who has played 51 games, wouldn't be leaving the Suns.
"Total rumour. I've spoken to David and his manager and it's total rumour," Ashcroft said.
Ashcroft also ruled out snaring Collingwood defender Heath Shaw, who is being considered by Greater Western Sydney, Geelong, Melbourne and Carlton.
